SOx has dubbed this month "Artistic April", and I wholeheartedly concur!
I plan to practice my singing, guitar, finish my steampunk costume and steampunk up my stilts. I am also slowly working through my fabric collection, but that takes time :)
I'll put up photos as I get things completed!
- Steampunk stilt costume (but one that shows off the stilts anyway, so it could also be my normal steampunk costume)
- Finish off the special stilt costume I started a couple of years ago
- There's also the heavy stilt costume that I need to revisit and finish to perfection
One of the fabrics I was going to sew into a work suit is currently being a backdrop for a video shoot in our home. That's fine, as I have steampunk deadlines to work towards now! Focus there first!

Oooh! Another one ...
Hrm, I made more than I thought lately ... must keep on top of these entries ...
These photos are by the awesome Larissa Sayer!
Sean didn't have a costume for the Sci Fi night at Sanctuary. One leftover piece of foam, a stocking, some red fabric and some white vinyl later ...

Coming up ...
Projects for 2010:
Being organised and making a whole bunch of gift bags out of fabric! Main sizes will be for dvds, books, and a cd-sized thing for other little trinkets. I'm tired of wrapping paper. I'm also not very good at Furoshiki.
Steampunk costume - both stilted and not. I want to get back into stilting this year, I miss the fun, randomness and fitness!
Various office clothes requirements: hemming, altering, darts, etc. I am not to buy anything new until I have dealt with all the existing fabrics in the house!
At the very least, I must maintain a system where all the pending fabrics fit in one suitcase. At the moment, it's one suitcase, a drawer, and a pile. This will not do.
I am planning to hand-make most of my gifts this year. Specifically chosen with love and the recipient in mind. Do they need storage space? Cat toys? Something that won't clutter up their home? Something edible? Drinkable? Recipes? I could go on. I'm not guaranteeing they will all be USEFUL, but I hope they'll all be welcomed in the spirit they are offered :)

Star Trek
Oh yeah: made these too:

Well, Riss fixed hers and Paddy's! And yes, I DID get Alisma's and my Communicator/insignia things on back to front. Thanks for noticing. I lost some geek points right there for NOT being aware of that.

Tardis again
Tardis
I have never really hidden the fact that I am a geek, but I am a selective geek. I watched Start Trek Next Gen with all my folks, but I never thought I was Data. But I do love Doctor Who. I recall watching it as a kid in all its daft camp glory. How missing one episode would make it difficult to catch up and know what was going on ... wait a minute, didn't the Daleks have them captured yesterday? So what's happening NOW?
Anyway, when Doctor Who was resurrected a few years back, I thought I'll keep my eye out for it. I caught a couple of episodes on CBC and thought "Yup, this is worth catching up on ... it looks like they actually have a special effects budget now ... " SO I bought the new season with Christopher Eccleston. It was good. I went back and bought the next season with David Tennant. It was very good. By the time I had bought the third season, Sox was interested enough to know what I was watching. "Blink" was the episode that converted him. SO we went back and watched them all from the beginning!
Now, one of the things that I love about our Vancouver friends is that they are open to new things. Perth people were good (and still are good) but we stopped sharing fascinations. ABout the time when they wouldn't come juggling because it was a Buffy night was when I realised we didn't have much in common any more. That and Pokemon. I will always hold a certain passionate hatred for Pokemon.
Anyway, where was I? Ah yes: The Doctor.
I mouthed off about Doctor Who a bit over time, and slowly people expressed interest .. we loaned, we cajoled, we encouraged internet purchases ... and now they are ALL in! Yay! So happy! We even watched the pre-death of DT's Doctor over the internet on Christmas night!
And this means that when I declare my birthday party to be a "Science Fiction" theme that there is no trouble when I dress up as a Tardis, Larissa is a Tree of Cheam, and Paddy is the Doctor himself!

Turkey Toque
Yup.
And yes, I do often look that insane in photos.
It was inspired by this post here: http://goingcrafty.com/?p=86 and I need to give a HUGE thanks to my Mum who worked out how to make it for a Sean-sized head instead of a newborn baby. She is now my go-to person for random patternness.
So there: a vegan roast turkey.

The Clothing Chronicles
So one of my main missions is to put together the optimal wardrobe. Yeah.
Sox and I have spent a fair amount of our adult lives being transient, which involves living somewhere for a while, then purging all unnecessary belongings before heading somewhere else. I have significantly streamlined the clothes that I own because of this. I got to the stage where if it didn't fit into my backpack, I was obviously never going to wear it again.
Thrift Stores have done very well out of me: both for donations and purchases.
Anyway, as I have streamlined this process over the years, I have worked out that separates are my friends. I owned minimal shoes. One pair of Doc Marten boots (black, eight hole) would last me daily wear for three years or more. I am now on my third or fourth pair, I think. I like them - A LOT. Really.
However, as an early-thirty-esque who now works reliably in an office, I have found that my wardrobe needs are changing. I work corporate. I go to the gym (well, I'm planning to). I hang out with buddies. I have two weddings to attend this year. But I still want to be able to shove things into my backpack and pull out a perfect variety of clothes at the other end. Old habits die hard.
But how can one fit these needs into my current philosophy of wanting to Do Things As Well As I Can ?
In no particular order, here is my agenda with clothing items. They must be:
Organic
Recycled
Low carbon foot print / made in Canada / supporting local community / fair trade
Economical
Sustainable practices
Durable / long lasting
Natural fabrics
Original
Versatile
I am trying to put these into a proper hierarchy, but essentially if it isn't organic, it must be recycled. Everything should have as low a carbon footprint as possible, which means that I want it to have tranevlled the least distance to reach me. I need to be able to afford it. I need it to be versatile and durable, as I am going to hammer it pretty hard and use it A LOT. Really.
I am planning to outline this in more detail later on, just wanted you to have the basics now.
Yes.
